A Little Bit of This & That

The Random Things We Love to Make and Do

Gluten Free Friday / Skylarism October 7, 2011

Filed under: Friday in Photos,Skylarisms — Lizz @ 4:30 pm

I thought it would be fun to mash-up two of my favorite regular posts for today. So today I have for you a GFFriday with a Skylarism (something funny/awesome that comes out of my daughter’s mouth).  Here you go:

(7:15 am)

.

Me: “Skylar…it’s time to get up.”

.

Skylar: (mumbling) “5 more minutes…”

.

(5 minutes later…okay maybe 10 minutes)

.

Me: “Skylar…it’s time to get up.”

.

Skylar: “I can’t wake up because I have Celiac Disease.”

.

I’m pretty sure the laughter that burst out of me got her right out of bed.

.

Then we had a chat about how Celiac Disease will not disrupt anything in her life outside of food.  So no, you cannot use it as an excuse to sleep in, get out of cleaning your room, or extend your curfew (in the future).

.

Wish me luck everyone!

Why My Sister is Awesome – Friday in Photos April 29, 2011

Filed under: Friday in Photos — Lizz @ 11:29 am

I haven’t done a Friday in Photos for a while, so my apologies for this one being a little long.

.

I have done my best to not gush about my sister, but I can’t contain myself anymore.  She is an artist.  Correction:  She is an amazing artist!  Every time I see something she’s done I can’t imagine how she came up with such an idea, and how she possibly got it done.  I also continue to be impressed with the things she does to decorate her apartment.  I don’t get over there enough, so when the whole family was invited for a dinner party/birthday party/mother’s day party, I was really excited to go and see what she’s been up to.

.

After entering her very long entrance hallway, we were greeted by a chalkboard wall and a birthday wish.

.

.

And teeth.  I love that painting!

.

Skylar added her own special touches,

.

.

and then had a go at the balloon decorations.

.

.

She blew some bubbles on the balcony,

.

.

and then we all started getting a little silly.

.

(‘sup Casey!!)

.

.

Nothing like having such serious parents!

.

.

Wait!! Must attack balloons again!!

.

.

And be adorable.

.

.

We did have a dinner too.  We were served on this great table setting:

.

.

We had individual salads waiting for us.

.

.

Followed up with pasta and chicken.

.

.

.

Doesn’t the chicken look gorgeous?  And plastic free?  Even the best laid plans sometimes require a second chicken.

.

Oh!  Did I forget to mention that this apartment is downtown?  Like downtown downtown.  Check out this view!!

.

.

And now for the interior decorating.  I will apologize here for not taking the best pictures, and also not editing.  Well, I’m busy ya know!  You’ll still get the point…

.

I would NEVER have the guts to do this to a wall…

.

.

I also love her lamp.  She used the same technique that I used for the string nest, but she used a balloon instead of a bowl to create a round shape.  Then she placed it around a home depot-esque spotlight, and voila! (I promise to re-take this one during the day, so you can see it better)

.

Her paintings hang all over the place

.

.

And her room looks like something out of a magazine

.

.

I love that she and her roommate thought to create a Ven Diagram of foods they would both eat.

.

.

As we were leaving I stopped to use the restroom, and found this amazing wall art/jewelry holder.  I think I’m going to try to recreate this one.  Or make her come over and do it for me =)

.

.

So tell me…I’m not biased, right? Are you as impressed with my sister as I am?

.

With lots of love (and a little bias, and tons of jealousy), I love you my Sista!!

Friday in Photos – New Camera Addition March 25, 2011

Filed under: Friday in Photos — Lizz @ 9:11 am

I’ve been playing around a bit with my new camera, so it seemed appropriate to show you all a few of the first photos.  Now, I’m still working on re-learning all the aspects of photography, but these photos are still light years ahead of my others.

.

So, here’s the very first picture I took as soon as my battery charged:

.

.

Did you think it would be of anything else?

.

Then I started playing around with a few of the creative settings:

First, a normal picture of something that is almost always in front of me:

.

.

Then black and white:

.

.

Then sepia:

.

.

And blue:

.

.

Fun!

.

Then I took a few nighttime picture of our courtyard, after we got a dusting of snow (in late March!!)

.

.

.

So pretty, and so cold!

.

Then a few pictures of the treasure chest I keep the dollar coins and $2 bills I collect for Skylar:

.

.

.

Hmm….Who’s been putting other coins in there?

.

Anyways, I’ve been having a great time getting aquainted with my new camera.  Hope you guys are going to enjoy what we have to share with you!

.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday in Photos – Wacky Hat Day February 25, 2011

Filed under: Friday in Photos — Lizz @ 8:16 am

In honor of reading “The Cat in the Hat”, all the kids wore wacky hats to school.  We have a whole container full of fun hats at home.  There always seems to be a need for goofy hats, so we always keep them around.

.

If you’ve been reading our blog for a while, you might remember that we did a post similar to this while on a trip to Target.  If you want to see more craziness, click here to see those pictures.

.

For this event, Skylar tried on several options before choosing the hat she would wear to school.

.

Skylar Mouse

.

Captain Skylar

.

The Sky in the Hat

.

Skylar the Miner (don’t worry, she’s not in Chili)

.

The Good Witch of the North

.

The Easter Bunny never looked so cute!

.

And finally, here’s what she decided to wear to school…

.

Our Favorite!

.

I hope you enjoyed our crazy hat fashion show.  Do you have any favorite wacky hats at home?  Tell us about it!

So, it’s that time of year again.
.
Our tree has been trimmed…
.

.

.

Skylar’s letter to Santa has been written…

.

.

And mailed…

.

We’ve been to family Christmas parties, and got some practice opening exciting gifts…

.

.

.

We sprinkled reindeer food (aka. oatmeal) out on the balcony so Santa’s reindeer know where to find us.  (no pictures of that, but it’s a really fun idea!)

.

We’ve put out cookies for Santa, and are anxiously waiting his arrival

.

.

From my family to yours, I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!

Happy Friday Everyone!

.

I don’t have any special theme for this week’s photos.  These are just a few pictures that make me smile.

(this last one is, of course, what happens to Halloween once the candy is consumed)

.

Have a great weekend!

Friday in Photos October 29, 2010

Filed under: Friday in Photos — Lizz @ 1:31 am

I thought for this week, I would do a little ghosts of Halloween past, and show you the costumes Skylar has done up to this point.  Since I started this blog when she was already 5 years old, you have missed out on some serious cute.  So…

.

.

Not our finest photo, but it has the best view of her super cute bumblebee bunting costume.

.

.

.

Grandma doesn’t really need this food…

.

.

It’s a Bird!  It’s a Plane!  No, It’s….

.

Super Skylar!

.

I hope you all enjoyed reminiscing with me.  I will post Skylar in this year’s costume as soon as I can.  I will leave you with one more picture.  This is one of my favorite Halloween pictures, because it makes me laugh every time I see it.

.

.

Happy Halloween!
