I have officially made my first wreath!

I showed you in *This Post* how I created a nice white yarn wreath.  The possibilities are endless for decorating it!  I also love the fact that I can change the decorations as the holidays/seasons change.

Here is the first one, made with an obvious Halloween theme:

I am so happy with the outcome!  Here’s what I did:

The whole idea for this wreath started when I found this little guy at one of those temporary Halloween stores that pop up this time of year.

I certainly could have made this myself, but it was a buy one get one free deal that ended up costing me about $2 each.  Sounds like a deal to me!  If you can’t find something like this, you can take two styrofoam balls (one slightly larger than the other), and glue them together.  Then wrap them with a tinsel of your color choice.  You will need some wired tinsel for legs, and googley eyes.  That’s it!

For the web, I used the same yarn I had used to create the wreath itself so it would blend in.  To create the frame I used 4 lengths of string to create a pie-shaped crossing.  I tied each one on the backside of the wreath with some tight double knots and trimmed the ends.

To make the little web connections, I took a long length of yarn and started by tying it to one of the frame strings in the front of the wreath.  I made sure to choose a starting spot where I would be placing the spider, effectively hiding my knot.  Then I wrapped the web string around each frame string once.  I was careful to not pull to tightly or the frame would move out of place.

I continued wrapping in a spiral shape around all of the frame strings.  Once I got to the middle, I tightly tied off my string on the backside and cut the ends as short as possible.

Now it looks like a web!!

I glued on a few pieces of velcro (the harder grabby side) to the body and a few legs of my spider, and placed it onto the wreath (making sure to hide that starting knot).  The velcro grabbed right on to the yarn.  Now when I’m ready to change the wreath decorations, I can just pull the spider off and cut the web!

I love this and it looks great on our door.

I hope you’re all having fun getting your place ready for Halloween.  Have a great day!
