A Little Bit of This & That

The Random Things We Love to Make and Do

For those of you who do not live in the Chicagoland area, and haven’t seen what’s going on around here, let me get you up to speed:

  • Our local weather personalities are calling for 18-24 inches of snow from this afternoon through tomorrow.  Yes, you read that correctly.
  • The wind during this storm could reach hair-whipping speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
  • Said wind could cause snow drifts 5-10 feet high
  • This snow is expected to be “Heart Attack Snow” (as in, it’s so heavy that shoveling your driveway could give you a heart attack)
  • This heavy dense snow is the kind that weighs down power lines, causing them to fall and break, meaning lots of power loss.  This also happens to roofs (ala the Vikings Metrodome roof collapse)
  • They are predicting a thundersnow. (Which sounds really cool actually!)
  • The waves in Lake Michigan could get as high as 25 feet, causing flooding and erosion along the coast.
  • Many offices (including mine) have already planned to close tomorrow. (Yay!)
  • My daughter’s afterschool program will close early today.
  • As of this moment, school has not been canceled tomorrow.

Whhhaaaaa?  Yes, really.  Although, I am confident that 24 inches of snow should give us at least one snow day.  Maybe two.

I have been reading some other blogs over the last few months, written by some lovely people that live in the southern part of the US.  They got a few inches of snow, and had a week off.  I know that’s a lot for them, but I still sort of have a chuckle when I think about how they would probably freak out to see what we’ve got coming.

I am actually almost looking forward to it.  Generally I hate snow, but I am thinking this will make for some great photo opportunities.  We can go out, play a bit, click some pics, and head inside for some nice steamy hot chocolate to help us warm up.  Warming up milk and chocolate on the stove to the perfect temperature, and throwing in a few marshmallows sounds like a perfect end to a blistery winter day.  Or just do what we do.  Throw a K cup into your Keurig:

Voila! A steamy cup o’ cocoa!

I hope that wherever you are, you have a wonderful and safe rest of the week.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow….

For anyone who wants to see this again (and laugh hysterically), I give you the Viking Metrodome roof collapse: (p.s. is anyone else curious just how they were able to get this footage? And from so many angles?  And exclusive to Fox?)
