I came across a fun site, Sweet Serendipity, who had a great suggestion on how to help kids make their own cereal in the morning. Sounds good to me! I decided to give it a try, and it’s working like a charm. Here’s what we’re doing…
.
I got a nice plastic container with a lid that Skylar can open and close herself (we tested this in the store). We also hit the dollar store for a set of measuring cups. Since my kiddo never eats much of her breakfast, we put the 3/4 cup in the container with the cereal. The rest are now in her play food bucket.
.
.
Skylar has always had a designated lower cabinet for all of her bowls, plates, and cups. Now she can grab a bowl from her cabinet, fill it with a scoop of cereal, and have some breakfast. All without waking up Mom at 7:30 on Saturday morning. Can you hear the hallelujah chorus??
.
Now, Skylar doesn’t care for milk in her cereal, but she loves to drink it. I have some great tupperware cups that have lids on them that can be ready to go in the fridge. Alternatively, you could put some milk into a bottle with a sport top. This way kiddos can learn to pour themselves something to drink, or milk their cereal, without making (much of) a mess.
.
Another lovely bonus of this set up, is that the cereal will last longer in this nice container than in an open cereal box. We just had a great haul of cereal (8 boxes, and a free gallon of milk for about $10). I never realized how far off cereal expiration dates are. Now we can buy it when it’s a good deal, open one box at a time, and really make it last.
.
.
Isn’t that a lovely sight to see?
.
I hope you all find this as useful as I have. Have a great day!
